Congratulations! Your life will never be the same! I’m so happy you've chosen to celebrate the arrival of your baby with a portrait session. Lifestyle newborn sessions are all about celebrating your love for the new little life in your life. And they take place right in the comfort of our own home!

Newborn sessions capture you and your family as you are at this moment. Trust me, you’ll want to freeze these moments and remember just how small your baby really was! I’ll photograph your family snuggling baby on your bed, in the nursery, and around your home. There will be time to photograph each family member with the baby—siblings too! I will also take photos of baby alone in natural poses and places such as the crib or bassinet. Well behaved, trustworthy pets are welcome to participate.

How It Works

Booking

Like what you see? Reach out to tell me your due date so I can save some dates on my calendar. I’ll send you a session guide with tips on what to expect, what to wear and how to prepare your home in advance of your session. Remember to let me know once Baby arrives so we can settle on the exact date for your photos!

Your Session

Now the fun part! Sessions ideally take place about 2 weeks after baby is born. I will take photographs of your new family in the nursery and bedroom, as well as get some photos of baby alone.

Delivery Day!

Within 2-3 weeks of your session I will send you a link to a private online gallery where you can view the images from your session.

Prints & Products

Your family deserves to be celebrated! I want you to cherish the memories from your session for many years, and I offer high quality prints, albums and other products from my professional photo lab so you can enjoy them every day in your home.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • You can book at any time, but it’s best to book your session earlier in your pregnancy to be sure I will be available when your baby arrives. The preferred time for your session is 2-3 weeks after your baby is born. After booking I’ll follow up with a phone consultation to go over session information, how to prepare your home, what to wear and any questions you may have.

  • Absolutely! I really believe there is no wrong time to photograph your baby, and I have photographed babies up to ~2 months old at newborn sessions. Younger babies are usually sleepier and easier to keep swaddled, but we can still get beautiful images if your baby is a little bit older.

  • I plan on at least 2 hours for newborn sessions to allow plenty of time for feeding and cuddles. Sometimes I finish sooner, but typically newborn sessions last anywhere from 2-3 hours. You won’t feel rushed at this session!

  • No, I do not have a studio. Newborn sessions take place at your home. Since I don’t pose baby, the timing is fairly flexible. There is never a wrong time to take beautiful photos of your baby. Ideally, sessions take place around 2 weeks when baby is still very sleepy, small and content to be swaddled up tight. I don’t typically use props in my sessions, but if you have a special beanie, basket, or blanket that you wish to incorporate I am happy to discuss that with you.

  • I love photographing baby at home with you. Homes with a lot of natural light are ideal, but you would be surprised what you can do with one good window! I will ask you to check the light in the rooms you’d like to use and we can decide on the optimal time of day for your in-home session. I will also send you some information about preparing your home after your session is scheduled.

  • I advise against bright colors or anything all white. I recommend neutral color palettes for newborn sessions as it complements baby well. I’ll send you more info after booking.

  • Yes! I am still building this section of my portfolio, so if you are interested in maternity photos I’d love to talk with you. Contact me for special portfolio pricing!

  • Images from your session are typically available within 2-3 weeks of your session.

  • Yes! Newborn sessions include a set number of edited, high-resolution digital files for download. There is also the option to purchase additional individual files or the entire gallery of images. You will receive a print release with your session.

  • I’m glad you asked! I offer heirloom quality print products through my professional photo lab. I encourage everyone to order at least a few prints to see for yourself the difference between professional printers and consumer photo labs! Prints, canvases, wall displays and other products can be ordered directly from your online gallery. I encourage newborn clients to consider an album or photo book from their session. I handle everything from design to delivery!

  • When you’re ready, click here to fill our the contact form or email me at hello@sarahrowlandphotography.com. I’ll send a questionnaire, followed by a contract and an invoice for your session. I ask for a non-refundable initial payment to hold your date, which will be applied to your session fee. When everything is returned to me, you are officially on my calendar!
